"It was good, you know, I think what I like the most about is just moving the ball, playing together, and the ball wasn’t sticking and that’s how we want to play," Embiid said. "Just moving the ball, playing together, but we still have a long way to go. I still thought the spacing wasn’t great, so we know that that matters."
Embiid admitted it's something the team has worked on in practice this year and he sees potential in sharing the frontcourt with Reed. "I’ve always thought we had the potential to play with two bigs, especially with a guy like P[aul] Reed and some of the other guys that we have," he said. "We just have to keep working, try to see whatever works, and keep using it."
The Sixers have abundance have playable bigs on the roster. Finding ways for them to co-exist on the floor together gives Nurse more optionality with his rotation.
After missing the first three preseason games, Joel Embiid made his debut in the finale against the Atlanta Hawks. With his star big man in the lineup, head coach Nick Nurse experimented with a new look in the frontcourt.
Over the past year, Paul Reed has solidified himself as the backup to Embiid at center. However, Friday night was one of the rare times the two bigs shared the floor together.
Both players put together solid outings in the win against Atlanta. Embiid scored 21 points in his first taste of in-game action this year. Reed did a little bit of everything off the bench, posting a stat line of six points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
Following the win, Embiid was asked about sharing the floor with Reed. He enjoyed the Sixers' ball movement with this lineup but admitted spacing is something that still needs to be worked on.
