He then came out for the sixth, allowed two unlucky bloopers from Taylor Ward and Brandon Drury, and was pulled for Orion Kerkering.

Rengifo took an interesting gamble with two strikes and still went for the sacrifice bunt. Former Phillies prospect Logan O’Hoppe hit a ground ball to Bryson Stott to make it 4-3.

Kerkering threw a first-pitch fastball, a pitch you would think no hitter is sitting, but Tucker slapped a heater into center field to tie the game and end Sánchez’s line.

In the bottom of the seventh, it was up to Seranthony Domínguez to keep the game tied. The infield single from Adrianza was unlucky but Zach Neto punched a sinker into left field to put two runners on for Mike Trout.

Trout shockingly grounded into a force-out and then stole second base without a throw but Adell struck out on a bad slider.

The inning was almost over without harm but Domínguez overthrew what was supposed to be a high fastball down to the ground and past the reach of Garrett Stubbs. Both runners scored to give the Angels a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

The top of the Phillies order gave them a chance with a single by Turner and a ground-ruled double by Harper but it wasn’t their night. Bohm hit a sac fly to make it 6-5 and Brandon Marsh struck out on a high fastball.

They drop to still a very impressive 19-11 record but a loss still stings.

A hot start to the season brings the Phillies to a 19-10 record against a scuffling Angels team that faces more drama off the field than on it.

The offense started with a Kyle Schwarber single into right field, Trea Turner taking a first-pitch fastball to the back, and Bryce Harper working a seven-pitch walk.

Angels starter Griffin Canning then did the one thing you can’t do in April, give Alec Bohm anything to hit. Bohm took a first-pitch slider to left field to make it 2-0. Brandon Marsh hit a sac fly to extend their lead to three.

Cristopher Sánchez didn’t have the command of his changeup tonight and it showed. Jo Adell crushed a down and in slider to left field to make it 3-1 in the first.

The second inning didn’t get any better when Luis Rengifo led off the inning with a double and Cole Tucker, making his Angels debut, walked. Ehire Adrianza shot a single into right field before getting caught in a run down to make it 3-2.

The top of the fifth got interesting, Canning missed four pitches to Schwarber for a walk and then Turner slapped a single into right to put runners on first and third.

Canning threw over to Turner once, then twice, and then a third time that didn’t blow the house down. Instead, it was a balk that each runner advanced on to make it 4-2.

Sánchez battled through five innings with just one whiff on a strikeout from Mike Trout. He generated just a seven percent strike rate on his changeup today.
