Tobias Harris: A-plus
The Sixers needed somebody to provide scoring considering the sluggish start to this one. Harris stepped up and pumped in some much-needed scoring with Embiid off to a slow start. Harris’ effort kept the Sixers in the game despite the fast start by Toronto. He was super efficient in this one and benefited from all of the attention the Raptors gave Embiid and Maxey. Harris’s stepped up to the challenge and really gave Philadelphia a big boost.
Marcus Morris Sr.: B
Stepping into the lineup with De’Anthony Melton out, the veteran had a solid night. He had a nice tip-in off a Harris miss, knocked down a 3 and helped with his rebounding and passing. His shooting threat helped space the floor. It was a bit of a rough time on the defensive end, but Pascal Siakam is also a really tough matchup for anybody.
Joel Embiid: A-plus
One has to give Raptors big man Jakob Poeltl credit for his defensive effort against Embiid. He frustrated the big fella into a very slow start. Embiid only had two points in the opening quarter, which is impressive considering how fast Embiid can start games for Philadelphia. The big fella appeared to tweak his right ankle in the opening quarter which slowed him a bit, but Embiid stuck with it and eventually found his groove. He was great with his playmaking. He was directing players all night, making sure everybody was in the right spots. He was terrific in the third quarter while doing the heavy lifting on the offensive end. Another spectacular night for the reigning league MVP.
Danuel House Jr.: B-plus
House gave the Sixers really good minutes defensively. He was all over the place on that end using his athleticism and his activity to bother the Raptors into really tough looks and even tougher passes. He also was getting to the basket and forcing the issue against a taller Toronto team.
Paul Reed: B-plus
The initial Reed minutes were a mixed bag. He took an ill-advised triple from the top of the key that clanged off the side of the rim, but he made a terrific defensive play on the other end to get a block. He had foul trouble again, but the initial stint was good. In the second half, Reed played within himself and stayed around the rim. It was a nice night for Bball Paul.
Robert Covington: C-plus
After missing a game due to illness, Covington returned and picked up three quick fouls in his initial stint. Two of them were questionable calls, but they limited his effectiveness the rest of the way. He picked up another foul in the fourth quarter, but despite the foul trouble, he played solid defense on Scottie Barnes.
Furkan Korkmaz: B
With the Sixers short-handed and in need of offense, Korkmaz received some early minutes. He had a nice bucket when he got into the paint and finished over Toronto's length. He had some defensive issues, but his offense was a big help.
The Philadelphia 76ers played host to the rival Toronto Raptors on Friday night, looking to pick up another win over Toronto. The Sixers have been playing excellently, winning seven of their last eight games. Meanwhile, the Raptors are still looking to find a rhythm under new coach Darko Rajakovic.
It was a very slow start for the Sixers, who trailed the Raptors by 15 in the first half. They looked disjointed defensively and unable to find a groove on the offensive end. However, led by Tobias Harris, the Sixers rallied for a 121-111 victory, their 20th of the season. Harris had 33 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.
Joel Embiid overcame a slow start and finished with 31 points, nine assists and 10 rebounds, Tyrese Maxey added 33 points and 10 assists, Marcus Morris Sr. added seven and five assists with four rebounds, and Kelly Oubre Jr. added eight points.
Here are the player grades following the win:
Tyrese Maxey: A-plus
The Raptors are one of those unique teams in the league that have length across their entire lineup. That can bother Maxey when he tries to get to the rim or even on his 3-point looks. The young guard out of Kentucky deserves credit for continuing to be aggressive despite the challenges Toronto offers. In the end, Maxey ended up having another very nice night as he showed off his perseverance. He was making the right decisions with the basketball and he had some terrific finishes at the basket. Once again, he took over in the fourth showing off his ability to close games out on the offensive end.
Kelly Oubre Jr.: C
It’s really important for the Sixers that Oubre Jr. finds his rhythm again. He had a tough time shooting in this one despite a solid start when he knocked down a triple in the early going. He remained aggressive which is an important part of his game. Philadelphia will take that, but he has to find his groove again on offense. He didn’t shoot particularly well, but he made an effort defensively and gave the Sixers a boost on that end.
