The Philadelphia 76ers ended the preseason on Friday with a 120-106 win over the Atlanta Hawks. The result was secondary. The big story was Joel Embiid’s return to the lineup after he missed the first two preseason games. He was supposed to play in Monday’s contest with the Brooklyn Nets, but was scratched due to being under the weather.

Embiid didn’t look masterful on Friday. He shot only 3-for-12, but he scored 21 points thanks to knocking down 14 free throws on 15 attempts. He also had five rebounds. He blocked two shots and he shot 3-for-6 in the second half once he got his legs underneath him.

De’Anthony Melton had a big night for the Sixers. He scored 29 points to lead Philadelphia, including 14 in the third quarter, and he knocked down six 3s on 10 attempts. Tyrese Maxey had 15 points and 12 assists. Tobias Harris had 11, five rebounds and five assists. Kelly Oubre Jr. added 11 points, Furkan Korkmaz had eight points and Jaden Springer finished with six.
