Ricky Council IV, like everyone else, struggled from the field but made up for it at the line. He finished with 13 points despite shooting 3-of-15 from the field. He’s had a lot of good plays in transition this summer, and it’s not just his high-flying dunks.
What’s stood out in transition this summer have been his outlet and hit-ahead passes — a skill that might come in handy with one of the fastest guys in the league on the big league club.
The summer Sixers, now 2-1, will have the next couple of days off before wrapping up group play. They’ll take on the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Even for this time of year, that wasn’t a pretty win. The Summer Sixers led by as much as 16 in the second half, but barely held on for a 92-90 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night. Neither team shot better than 20% from three and they combined to take 75 free throws.
While his shooting line only slighted improved, Jared McCain led the Sixers with 21 points tonight. He was 5-of-16 from the field and 2-of-8 from three, but also went 9-of-9 from the line — his last two putting them up by three with eight seconds to go.
Jeff Dowtin Jr. went for 17, including a reverse layup that ended up being the game-winner.
Here are some thoughts at the buzzer.
Unsurprisingly, the best part of an ugly game was the play of the bigs. Keve Aluma hasn’t produced as much playing the four the last two nights, but he looked like he figured something out playing next to Adem Bona in the third quarter.
Bona stood out from the get go in his ability to alter shots. He finished with only one block tonight but was something the Wolves had to deal with all night.
His most impressive play of the game might have been this contest in transition.
McCain had another night of missing a lot more shots than he made, but his process continues to look alright. It was nice to see him hit some shots in the second half. He had really been wearing down towards the end of games this summer.

Sixers' first round pick Jared McCain scored 21 going 5-of-16 from the field and 2-of-8 from three, but also went 9-of-9 from the line.
