It was also a solid night for Keve Aluma, who’s spent most of this Vegas session playing in double big lineups. While he might profile as more of a traditional center, he’s shown the willingness to space the floor out like a four when he’s playing next to a big.
Judah Mintz got the Sixers off to a strong start, going on a personal 10-0 run in the first half. He finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three assists on the night. He did most of his damage from the line, going 8-of-11 from the charity stripe.
Even at 3-1, it’s extremely unlikely the summer Sixers move into the semi-finals of the Vegas tournament as only four teams make that cut. So while they could get a consolation game, that likely spells the end of Sixers basketball until October.
The summer Sixers wrapped up group play Friday night with an 96-80 win over the San Antonio Spurs. The summer veterans started off slow, but had big fourth quarters to improve the Sixers’ Vegas record to 3-1.
Jeff Dowtin Jr. only made one field goal through three quarters, but got it going in the fourth to finish with 17 on 6-of-16 shooting. Ricky Council IV wasn’t as cold through three, but also had a solid fourth to end with 20 on 7-of-14 shooting.
Here are some thoughts at the buzzer.
You could really set a timer for Jared McCain’s offensive production this summer. He’ll hit a couple shots early, miss his next 10 or so, then hit another jumper or two in the second half. This three he hit in the first half wasn’t quite a no-dip three, but it’s pretty damn close and it’s nice to see him hit one of those.
McCain only hit one field goal in the second half, but he wasn’t coming up as short as his second-half jumpers have been in previous games.
Both of the Sixers’ two-way guys wrapped up the summer fairly well. Justin Edwards had a very impactful first half, and David Jones came alive in the third quarter, scoring 13 of his 15 on the night in that frame.
Jones might be too chaotic and out of control to get a real shot in the league, but he is capable of putting the ball in the hoop on occasion.

Ricky Council IV had a solid fourth to end with 20 on 7-of-14 shooting in what is most likely the Sixers' last summer league bout.
